Several hiking trails cross the village. Whether you want to go for a relaxing walk in nature or make a challenging day-trip, suitable trails for all difficulty levels are available. During the season you can go up with the ski lift, walk down or hike to the other ski lift and do it the easy way. The impressive Parc National des Écrins is located nearby: peaks over 4000 meters and an abundance of incredible hiking trails.
The Alpe d'Huez ski resort has about 250 km of slopes, ranging from green to black. The Pic Blanc has an altitude of 3330 meters. From here you can ski the longest slope of Europe, over 2 kilometres of altitude difference without a single stop. All facilities like ski schools, restaurants and bars, a supermarket, swimming pool and during the season even a small skating rink are around the corner.
Walhalla! Col de la Croix de Fer, Col de la Madeleine, Col du Glandon, Col du Galibier, Col du Télégraphe, Col du Lautaret, and of course the famous climb to Alpe d'Huez. Special events during the year are La Marmotte, a cyclo-sportive-tour of 174 kilometres and 5000 altimetres, a triathlon, the Tour de France and, for the mountain bikers, one of the most famous downhill marathon races, the Megavalanche.
